DP/DP coupler help

RickM Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	I am writing a program that will need to send information to another master PLC using Profibus I have a DP/DP coupler for that. I set it up in my hardware configuration and add the bytes and words for the information that will be send out, as well as received, in the hardware configuration. I had that information in a Data Block ready to use. So my question is which one do I use, do I use my data block or do I have to use the address that the DP ID gave? As well, do I need to use the BSEND and BRCV block? Does any one has example of how it done? Thanks Ricardo

Once you have the DP/DP coupler setup in both DP-master projects, and you have noted the I/Oaddresses that will be used in each CPU,all you have to do is configure the salve module table (number and size of each data exchange) in the HWConfig of each PLC. For an example configuration, look at the following FAQ: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19281019 Examine the 2 tables shown in the attached document in the FAQ. Notice that they correspond line-per-linein size, but that they are reversed in type: Outputs from the first table become Inputs in the second... Once the HWConfig has been compiled and downloaded to each CPU, the Dp/DP Coupler will start exchanging the data setup in these tables. It is up to you to Move data from/to these addresses to/from your PLC program. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

RickM Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	So i have to do a move basically? For example in the DP/DP couple using the example you gave if i wanted to send I 0.0 a regular input to the PLC to the other PLC i would need to do a move fuction using I 0.0movetoQ 256.0using the dp/dp couple address? That simply?

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 6/8/2023 Posts: 12037 Rating: (2596)	Hello Rick; Test the data exchange with VAT tables: read and write values to a test memory location (a DB, or M registers) in the first CPU, Movethis datato the output addresses of the first DP/DP coupler connection; check that it arrives correctly in the second CPU (Move the data from the Input address to a memory area of the second slave connection of the DP/DP coupler). Then test the reverse operation to thest exchanges between the second CPU and the first. You'll see that it works well. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

sfa Posts: 70 Rating: (3)	Hi RickM Only thing to worry about is consistency. E.g. If you want to move more than a DoubleWord (4byte) at the time you should use appropiate blocks for that : SFC14/15 or setup the IO accordingly. Simple bit operations are just straight forward. Have fun Søren

But i got a silly question seeing for bits i cant use a move function i can use the a regular open contact and out put ,basically if db200.dbx0.6 is 1Q 0.1 will be 1 as well? I trying to eleiminated as much issues i can before i get the second cpu. At the moment i have only one. DB200,dbx0.6 Q 0.1 ------[ ]-----------------------( )---

Vitas Posts: 74 Rating: (2)	Hello RickM, the term "both have to be identical in configuration" mean that You have to set I/O space size, order and adress composition same in HW Cfg of every one PLCs (2pcs). Fox example: If You set in the PLC_1 first 2byte like output, then You have to set in PLC_2 first 2byte like input etc. Would be better read DP/DP Coupler manual - page 40 and 41.
