Hello algudkar; Profibus-DP communications generally require one master and a number of configured slaves; this is easy.. It is not so easy (although there are some mechanisms available) toexchange datafrom master to master over Profibus-DP. The DP/DP coupler makes the master to master exchanges easier because it has 2 slave interfaces. Each slave port is connected to a different Profibus-DP network. Master 1 connects and configures data exchanges to one slave port of the DP/DP coupler; Master 2 connects to the second slave port of the DP/DP coupler, and configures the same size and type of data , but in reverse. This way, the masters can use the DP/DP coupler to exchange data transparently, as if they were talking to each other. Limits of the DP/DP coupler data exchanges are the same as for any Profibus-DP slave: 244 bytes OUT, 244 bytes IN. You can have a look at the DP/DP coupler manual, for more details: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1179382 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
