Drill with chattering

makaveli Posts: 259 Rating: (5)	Hello, I have one problem on horizontal boring and milling machine. When they drill with RAM movement (one axis) only we received vibrations. First i think that maybe is something work with the tool or with parameters in NC program, but here everything is all right. We change the tool and with the same program that we work for more then one year so here should be everything ok. After that we try in different part that is make from different material and tool also chatters. We have similar problem year ago and then error was in geometry. So right now we check all geometry conditions and everything is in tolerance. Do you have any suggestion what can be wrong. I add photo of drilled hole. If yes please try & check the drill with quill. From the photo, I think the problem may be with your tool, drill sharp cutting edges. Please check the sharpening of cutting edge. Also check the smooth rotation of your spindle RPM. Try to drill this by changing gear stage? Hope this may help you.

I contact with manufacturer of this machine and the give me this response: “If the problem is the strong vibration of the column, you probably have the axis X double pinion to adjust” So first I try there way and later if this isn't help I check your suggestion. CraigSimpson Posts: 159 Rating: (1)	I have had the same thing here and assuming that all cutting factors are ok; cutting angles, sharpness, speeds, feeds, etc, then I would suggest "loosening" the gain of the spindle drive. It may be that whencutting harder materials that the spindle is always trying to correct its position and never really maintains it - hence a constant vibration and the chatter effect. Only in spindle controller mode, SPOS, would I worry about gains so much; in a normal cutting mode it would not need to be so specific. try making MD1407 for the spindle gain a greater figure and possibly MD1409 for the integrator a greater figure also. It may be that this machine will cut ok for a year but then the settings need changed to "loosen" it off a bit as mechanically everything will be slightly more worn. Remember to make archives before playing with these figures!
