From software release 5.1, you can use the "Electronic gearbox" functionality in SINUMERIK 840D will also be providing non-linear coupling functionality between leading axes and following axes in subsequent development releases.“ High-precision, kinematic axis coupling with a programmable ratio can be implemented using the “electronic gearbox“. The coupling can be designed and selected for any CNC axes per program or operator panel. The motion of a following axis can be controlled, dependent on up to five leading axes, using the "electronic gearbox" function. The inter-relationships between the leading axes and the following axis are defined using coupling factors for each leading axis. The calculated following axis movement component is generated from the individual leading axis motion components with the particular coupling factors. For “drive-independent extended stopping and retraction“, there is a defined, delayed stopping and the tool is retracted from the machining plane without any collisions between the tool and workpiece. For cases where the energy of the DC link is not sufficient for safe retraction, there is the “drive- independent regenerative operation“ function. It is an autonomous drive mode, which when the line supply fails, it regenerates the energy, saved in the rotation of the spindle or the motion of the axis, into the DC link. "electronic gearbox" can only be implemented using the NCUs 573.2/31 axes (for NCU 573.2/12 axes in preparation) of SINUMERIK 840D, "regenerative operation" and the "drive-independent stopping and retraction" can be used as option with all other NCUs, and therefore outside the application area of the "electronic gearbox" Regards, Prakash

There is coupled motion and master value coupling as well as gantry axis function. Look in the Function Manual Special Functions for a description. Pee
