Encoder Connection to S120

Hello,

I have difficulties in configuring encoder to Sinamic S120 system.

The following are the part numbers:

 1. Control Unit (6SL3040-1MA01-0AA0)

 2. Infeed (6SL3130-6TE25-5AA3)

 3. Motor Module (6SL3120-1TE28-5AA3)

 4. SMC20 (6SL3055-0AA00-5BA3)

 5. Encoder (ROQ 424 512 03S17-58) (Type: AV1Y) (Heidenhain)

During DDS Configuration, at Encoder section I have selected encoder CODE NUMBER "2051" and downloaded to CU320. Fault occurred saying encoder parameter incorrect. Hence I have tried the other code numbers as well, namely: 2082 and 2084 but the results are still in same fault.

Value in parameter P404 = 100216H.

Would appreciate some assistance for this encoder configuration.

OK, make everyone guess and Google part numbers to see what exactly you have.

If you have an SMC20, I assume you have an EnDat encoder.  Some data sheet that I have shows that is a multiturn 13bit (8192) ppr with 12 bit (4096) multiturn resolution.  The incremental section I assume is 512 ppr HTL, but you are not using that with an SMC20.  You would need an SMC30 for that or for an SSI encoder.

So, your encoder number is User Defined (9999) an then fill out the data from there.  No idea why you decided to use 2051 or an SSI encoder.  If you are using Starter, select Enter Data then fill out your data.

Sorry for the lack of information earlier.

I have attached the settings that I have made for "user defined option as suggested.

Fault occurred after downloading to the Control Unit which says "encoder failed to initialize" and "wrong encoder configured".

Please advise if any further information required.

From your data sheet, it looks like your signal levels are TTL.  If that is the case, then use need to be using an SMC 30 (TTL/HTL) instead of and SMC 20, which reads 1V p-p and is really intended for EnDat encoders.

This is why, for absolute encoders, I always use DRIVE-CLiQ compatible so I don't have to screw around with this kind of stuff.

Managed to resolve the issue with the attached settings.
