We are often asked why the encoder value of an absolute encoder is lost when the system is restarted and referencing is required again. When using an absolute encoder (e.g. SSI absolute encoder on SINMICS G120 with CU250S-2PN), an encoder adjustment must be carried out and then the parameters saved in the non-volatile memory (ROM). The exact procedure can be found in the Function manual "Single positioner" under chapter "6.6.5 Adjusting the absolute encoder". Remark: In the new versions of the manual, encoder adjustment is explained in the TIA Portal Startdrive. In the old version as of 06/2013, encoder adjustment is explained in STARTER. Note: The procedure described in this article refers to the time of writing this article (status: October 2021). Yours sincerely SIMATIC International Technical Support Hub |
