Error/Crash when accessing external tags in HMI

Hey everyone,

I have this really annoying problem with TIA portal. The problem I will describe here came out of nowhere. In WinCC, when I try to connect an external tag on a button or figure,... My TIA wil crash. It goes like this:

1. I Click on the object I want to define and create as example an event, so the tagbox opens
2. I navigate to the source in my PLC where the relevant tag is
3. When I click on the source map in my PLC I get this crash and need to restart TIA with losing progress.

I tried compiling hardware and software (rebuild all blocks) of the PLC and the HMI and still this doesnt work. The problem however doesn't always happen when I connect an internal tag first. 

Sounds like a bug in the TIA software to me but I'm hoping someone of you has some experience with this problem and maybe a solution to it!

Try firstly to add tag to HMI tag table manually and link it to plc tag. And than use tag from hmi tag table where you need it. This is not solution to problem this  just might be workaround. Latest update could be solution.

Yes, this indeed works but it consumes more time. Therefore I'm looking for a solution!
