Dear gre_m, For sure it will work. As if you are powering a CPU without I/Os. I do not know what is the point but it will work or may be you have direct starter modules, revering starter modules, soft starter modules, or inverters installed beside it. Regards,

So, at least youneedone module which might be a power module but still that would be an odd thing to do and I don't know if the end module fits on power module terminalsor not. It may fit but I never tried it. There's a big difference between CPU without I/Os and IM without I/Os. CPUs might be used in some calculations or distributing communication loads and in these cases they don't have I/O modules but ET200S is called distributed I/Os system and it would be a strange configuration to have IM with nothing beside it. The ET200 S CPU "IM151-7 CPU" Can work without modules as if you can power any CPU of S7-300 for instance without I/Os. Here's attached the picture of HW config after successful compilation. And again as I have menstioned before, your application may not have physical I/Os and it may contains starter modules and not electronic modules. To conclude and close the subject. May be the question was not clear to us. 1. If gre_m was talking about IM151-7 CPU. The answer is YES it can work without electronic modules. 2. If gre_m was talking about Interface modules like IM151-1 for instance, The answer is NO it can not work without electronic modules. And keep in mind that you do not have to order it as it'c commes with the package of the power modules. Just a minor correction to start with: The "end module" (terminator) comes with the IM (not with the power module) As for grey_m question, I have a felling he wants to leave spare slotsin his ET200S and NOT yet plug in all electonics module in which case the short answer is: It depends on the location of his reserve modules. Below is basically an (edited) excerpt from the ET200S operating instructions which hopefully explains it all, the manual can be downloaded here: Option handling with RESERVE modules (I believe this is what gre_m intends to achieve) Option handling enables you to set up the ET 200S for future expansions (options). Option handling means that you install, wire, configure, and program the planned maximum configuration of the ET 200S. The optional electronic modules are initially replaced with inexpensive RESERVE modules which are then later exchanged with the planned electronic modules. This means that the ET 200S can be completely prewired ("master cabling") since the RESERVE module is not connected to the terminal module terminals and therefore not to the process. The RESERVE modules for future expansions at the right-hand end of the station do not have to be mounted. In this case, preparatory installation and wiring are possible but not a prerequisite.
