Ethernet Peer to Peer with unknown partner

Can anyone give me an example for setting up a connection partner, peer to peer, to an unknown partner? eg, the partner is not in the same multi project, but is on the same ethernet project. It doesnt seem to make sense because the remote partner IP address isnt known in the connection. Does it need to be set up as passive or send/rcv?. I have done it in a multiproject before. Thanks In Advance!
