Ethernet switches

I'm fairly new to this.

What spec switch do I need for a 1212 cpu, kp300 Hmi and laptop all to share the same ethernet.

I've been using an old netgear switch, which appears to be sporadic, a newer cisco switch works a lot better.

Do I have to use an expensive industrial switch, just for lab prototyping & learning?

I wondered why this old netgear would not work.

It seemed to be the pc to plc side of things, not so much plc to hmi & other devices, a pre programmed plc worked, but the pc would not connect to the plc.

which old netgear you use?

can it be that is no switch? (a HUB) or only 10 mBit Switch?

Its a netgear Fs105.

It says its a fast ethernet switch, and it has 10 and 100 leds on each port, the 100 lights up for my laptop, and the plc/hmi.

I tried a 10m modbus device with my laptop running modbus poll, that worked so its 10 and 100 by the looks.
