Floyd Posts: 130 Rating: (1)	For starters, your going to need some type direct connection to the Processor. For a lot of customers, this means the PLC sits outside their facility Firewall. This may be a problem if the Ethernet is being used for other Facility communications to the PLC. Allowing you to "tunnel" into the PLC from the "Outside" world creates a security hole for the facility. This really becomes an facility IT (information technology)question. What are they willing to allow you access to. IT is usually pretty uptight about allowing this functionality these days. If you have an IP address assigned to the PLC and you can "ping" it from your office, you should be able to run Step7, etc. Of course, its always possible some port that is used by Simatic is blocked, but i don't know the requirement details, but "ping" is a good start. Have you talked to their IT department?

There are solutions like Teleservice available to access the MPI Network. It might be worth to ask if you may get a Modem Interface in the facility. Best regards J_Bell

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I do not know if you want to know about Teleservice... but I will try to explain. Teleservice consists of two units. One is Software, this is the Software you need with STEP 7 to access the site over a standard Modem... V90 or V92... as you want it. The second unit is the TS Adaptor. The TS Adaptor is needed to be connected on site between a second Modem and the MPI Interface of your CPU. The TS Adaptor has to be configured with the Teleservice Software to be able to work. Than the TS Adaptor receives the Calls, verifies if you are allowed to communicate to the PLC and if everything is OK the TS Adaptor converts the Serial RS 232 Data to RS 485 MPI. This way STEP 7 is able to access the MPI Interface of the CPU, you can access and program the PLC directly. Best regards J_Bell
