It depends upon type of brake, is it disck type or cylindrical (the programer needs to study the operation & saftey requirements first). Generaly from your application it is fail safe i.e. when motor is OFF, brake is applied & when motor is ON, brake is released, but better confirm it. Further more DO controls the brake valve operation & brake released positive feed back is configured to drive or controller. 

Safety is always first priority. You need to check, how drive is controlled, via PLC or any other controller, safety norms must be followed. Please refer DC Converter Application document for functional safety STO, SS1 (ISO 13849-1)  manual which will help you to impliment safety instrunctions.

How to assign joystick functions with dc drive?

I want to configure a ride's movement UP and Down. 

How can I use this up and down movements(ie, forward and reverse) using this joystick digital inputs?

I am planning to commission a new ride . The ride consists of two arms. Between the arms seats are arranged. Each arm is rotated using two dc motors fixed on either side of the arm using gears. 

Thus total 4 motors are used. Two motors in a single arm should rotate in opp direction to make the arm rotate in a single direction. Two arms' up and down motion is controlled using two joysticks.

How can I use two drives in pair to rotate single arm?
