Export project texts works incorrectly

Hi all,

I have some problem with the export project texts feature of TIA Portal V13 SP1. Sourca language is English (US), target language is German (Germany).

The export completes successfully - as reported by TIA, but the generated .xlsx file cannot be opened by MS Excel 2007. The message I get from Excel states:

"Excel found unreadable content in 'TIAProjectTexts.xlsx'. Do you want to recover the content of the workbook?"

If I click Yes, Excel says it wasn't able to open the file:

Removed Part: /xl/sharedStrings.xml part with XML error.  (Strings) Illegal xml character. Line 1, column 5600.

Removed Records: Cell information from /xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml part

Removed Records: Cell information from /xl/worksheets/sheet2.xml part

do you have the latest update 5 of Sp1 installed

Will WinCC still communicate with WinCC Runtime Advanced V13 SP1, or the Runtime on another system will also have to be updated?

There is also Update 5 for Runtime.

But I do not believe that Upd.5 will solve your Problem, but perhaps it bring new ones..

 This is one thing I've always hated with Siemens software.

Anyway, I'm still not able to export some of my texts....

I don't think it can, because it sounds like something is wrong with your export files semselves, but in the off chance that it can you could export them after opening them in the tool and have a look if you can open them in Excel now.

TIA Translation Tool (1.1.4, I believe this is the latest version) cannot import the .xlsx file. When I open the Import dialog and select the source directory nothing appears in the found files box.

I still have the same problem. More time is coming... and new update have been released, but the problem was not solved (now I'm using V13 SP1 UPD8...).

Someone have some news regarding this problem??

P.S. I have alse tried with TIA Transaltion (V. 1.1.5), but doesn.t work, too!

did you try to export and open single parts of the project?

You might be able to get closer to the source of the error if you know in which part it occurs (like in jbotis 2nd update on the 1st post).

If it affects all parts that's a clue, too.

I've found a fix for this issue. For future reference, please do the following:

- Open the TIAProjectTexts.xlsx file in 7-zip (it's a zip file)

- Navigate to the xl directory

- Extract sharedStrings.xml from the archive

- Open sharedStrings.xml in a text editor

- Search for the following string (everything between the quotes): ""

- Remove any occurence (you're removing the illegal character that Excel denotes in the error message "Illegal xml character. Line x, column y.")

- Save sharedStrings.xml

- Replace the old sharedStrings.xml in the TIAProjectTexts.xlsx archive (in 7-zip) with the newly saved one

The TIAProjectTexts.xlsx can now be opened by Excel again.
