Extended instruction handling Variant pointer in TIA V13 - S71500.

I've just tried your example with PLC SIM and got an error at the last instruction:

#aaa := VARIANT_TO_DB_ANY(in := #Data, err => #RetVal);

 Error: 8154 The data block has the incorrect data type.

My TIA Portal version is V13 SP1 Update 9

Any suggestions?

 The sample project is very nice for training the Variant type, however for the last instruction above I think the program has a flaw:

 The VARIANT_TO_DB_ANY instruction requires a Datablock of the new (TIA) type Array DB or been derived from PLC data type (UDT). 

On my test, I added two new DBs, one as Array-DB and other from a UDT  - you can create a MyUDT for example with the array of Real content.

Trying the first new DB  every works, all the instructions inside FB1 works as intended!

Trying the second new DB for my surprise did work the instructions (only the last did). The Is_Array didn't return true for my DB  (even that my MyUDT was an array[0..10] or real. 

Conclusion: In my opinion the VARIANT_TO_DB_ANY instruction is quite limited, too restricted just to return the DB number.
