what about sinamics integrated error messages ? Your 20005 says that you got a fault in that encoder but perhaps the sinamics integrated is telling more

Hi, apologies for delayed response, please see attached, the trace is of the Sinamics external encoder object at the highest trace clock cycle. I also attach the fault buffer in relation to the laser, there are no other alarms/faults prior to this occurring.

The Sinamics fault is F31112 Encoder 1 signals an internal error (1)

The bottom bit track is Fault and the one above is Alarm, You can see however, that there does not appear to be any strange events occurring.

The laser module communicates via SSI absolute protocol to the SMC30 module. At speeds below 9 metres per second, the encoder objects have never failed.

We are well within scope of the laser in terms of max speed, acceleration and range, but as You can see, the data is still being acquired by the SMC, but because the Sinamics object faults, the TO then freezes.

Well, that F31112 is a bit that is risen from the encoder through serial communication and comes to Simotion through SMC30.

So simply Simotion is saying "hey, encoder said that it has a problem, so I am going to (use last valid value/use zero value/etc) do something except ignoring it.

So I think it is an issue that is more concerned to the encoder itselfs, rather than SImotion/Sinamics Integrated settings...

I would call encoder constructors asking for help...

We already have an open support case with the manufacturer, but I wrote this forum post when we traced the laser encoder using their proprietary tool and saw no glitches or anything out of the ordinary (at least according to the laser itself, it's quite possible that the SSI stream is corrupted or the DQ is too noisy etc)

As an additional note, we are using 2 DMC20's in this leg of the topology, one as a hub at the business end and the other as an extender.

We have also re-routed the SSI cable to the SMC module to be completely away from any source of noise, and ensured the cable (and SMC module) are grounded..

We'll keep trying ....
