I do not know what is needed for you; in general terms ->

Depending on the configuration on the HMI itself, you may need to activate the HMI to "download" mode. Depending on the device, you could set the device to the required download mode PPI / MPI / DP as well as the required communication speed.

Could you please quote on your return the part number of the HMI and which engineering software (mention major and minor versions).

Check if the panel is the only device to use the MPI/DP adress "2", if the PG and panel use the same address  it's not possible to load the panel, because of address conflict.

Thanks guys. I did not expect to receive so many replies...

I checked again all the settings inside HMI and TIA, still no problem is found.

So I used another USB adapter to have a try and it did work... This is surprising so I used another HMI and computer to try again. 

What I found out was,  I can use 6GK1 571-0BA00-0AA0 to download software to KTP600 basic color DP while if I use 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0 then it will fail to find HMI.

But I can use 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0 to download software to S7-300.

So my guess is maybe 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0 does not support KTP600 basic color DP?

 Like i answered abowe, With the PC adapter USB you can't connect directly to a HMI, because the HMI is not supplying +5V to the Profibus connector. S7-200/300/400 CPU's on the other hand provide the +5V to the profibus connector. So the cable works with them.

PC adapter USB A2 gets the operational voltage from the PC USB port directly, so it work with all hardware, even if they are not supplying +5V to the profibus connector.

 You can use the cable that you have, but need to have a "through" Profibus connector like in the attached picture. Wen you have this connector on the PLC side, and plug in to that with your USB cable, then it get's the 5v operational power from the PLC.
