I was downloading program to PLC & and also HMI. PLC was CPU 1214 DC/DC/RLY & HMI was KTP400 BASIC PN. I managed to successfully download the program from my laptop to the PLC but failed to download into the HMI. I was told that i will need to set the IP of the HMI at the HMI first before donwloading the program from a laptop. Is this the correct procedure? I believe this should not be the way to successfully download the program to HMI. HMI is of second generation. PLC is of firmware version 4.2. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

yes is the right procedure.

Without a IP on the HMI Panel you can't establish the connection for the download, so set the IP on the panel before you download.
