FbDrive block in V8.0 update1

Nih Posts: 24 Rating: (1)	We've tried to use the FbDrive block in V8.0 update1, but found that the block will only connect to the system driver blocks if you configure the G120s using gsd file in the HW manager. We are using Drives ES Basis to allow us to centrally engineer the drives from the ES, and found that FbDrive does not make the driver connection correctly when compiling the AS. Also FbDrive does not allow you to scale the values to engineering units without using additional scaling blocks. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Drives ES PCS7 (now drives ES APL) does compile correctly, but is disliked by the customer as they get alarms from two faceplates (one hidden from teh screen) also and extra PO is needed for each instance of Drives ES PCS7/APL

After that, it should work. To Drive ES: Which version of Drive ES do you have? The Drive ES for PCS 7 Version 8 is availabe since 10.07.2012. The Drive ES for PCS 7 V7.x is not running in PCS 7 V8. For PCS 7 V8 there are two Drive ES versions available. One version for updateing from PCS 7 V7.x -> V8 And one version for PCS 7 V8 new engineering. In this version, you get only the Drive ES driver blocks and for operating and monitoring, you have to use the APL standard blocks. Messages: If you use the the Drive ES block behind a APL block, than you should deactivate the messages form the Drive ES block. Regards

Nil96 Posts: 325 Rating: (14)	Hey phil, Let me tell you my experience with PCS7 and G120 drives. Recently we supplied a PCS7 V7.0 to one of the plant and part of the deal was to supply only V7.0. Along with this there went some 35 drives ( all G120 series ). Initially in the hardware we inserted V1.4 GSD file and for a long time we wasted time since the module drivers werent getting created. Later Siemens advised us to use lower version of the GSD and when all the V1.4 were replaced with V1.3, the module drivers were created and every things was back to normal. Nih Posts: 24 Rating: (1)	Tanks for the suggestions guys, but the development team have acknowledged there is a issue with the current Fb_Drive, and it cannot be used in conjunction with Drives ES-Basis. No doubt it'llbe fixed soon, but I just wanted to pre-warn anybody in the spec/engineering phase of the project at the moment, as finding this out late could be a time burn. Also were committed to using Drives ES basic so we can centrally engineer the drives. The two versions of the Drives ES are upgrade and new install. The upgrade is to upgrade Drives ES for use on Win7 OS or to use with drives with firmware not supported by previous versions. The New install version is more expensive as its a one-off install, not an upgrade, the actual installed software is the same either way. If you build the HW config using GSD files the driver connection works, but then you can't use drives ES basis to centrally engineer the drive system, and this was more of a priority to us. 'If you use the the Drive ES block behind a APL block, than you should deactivate the messages form the Drive ES block.' A reasonable suggestion, but if you do this you nullify the system messages from the drive, so not much point in paying for the license cost of the block as well as the additional engineering time to implement the drives ES-APL/PCS7 functionality. In fact you may as well disable messaging through the drive parameter for this purpose (the parameter various from drive to drive- not a bad idea anyway then you don't get a flod of meassages when the drives temporarily hit the current limit during startup- yes I know that I could increase the ramp times to prevent this as well).

To use the universal standard APL block "FbDrive". With this block you can implement all drives, which are using the standard telegramm 20. With this block you have the baisc funktionality of the frequency converter, start, stop, rotation frequency, current,effective power, ...) This block is included in the APL, needs not additional process object (PO) and no Drive ES library. In the APL library you find an example template for this solution. 2. If you want to have the complete frequency converter functionality, than you have to buy the Drive ES. For PCS 7 Version 8, there is a completly new Drive ES library available. NEW The Drive ES PCS 7 APL blocksareonly driver blocks and have no faceplates inclusive. For monitoring and operating, you have to use the standard APL motor block "MotSpdCL", not the "FbDrive". The new Drive ES block needs no additional process objects (PO) and there are no double messages. Additional all the warning numbersand fault numbers from the frequency converter are displayed in the APL standard MotSpdCL block symbol, in the faceplate and inthe OS Runtime "One Alarm Line". At the moment it is only available for PCS 7 V7.1, but it is in the updating process and will available for PCS 7 V8 as soon as possible.

Nih Posts: 24 Rating: (1)	I think you are confusing the role of fbDrive,Fb drive, is only a driver block, the same as the APL_GS and APL_G120 supplied with the drives ES APL library,(similar to PCS7AnIn or PCS7DiIn). Theold v7 version of the Drives ES PCS7 generated a new block icon and faceplate, (and was widely criticised by our customers). MotSpdCL is still needed to provide the block icon and associated APL faceplates for the motor on the HMI. In each case you need to ensure you have used the correct GSD file in the HW config, otherwise the driver connections are not formed when the software is compliled. The GSD file used by Drives ES basic is unfortunately not compatible with fbDrive.

The FbDrive is for all frequency converters, the APL_GS / G120 only for Siemens Drives. The FbDrive has a liitle bit mor functionality, then a pure driver block. You have additional the error number of the frequency motor, a new add-on faceplate, which you can open via the MotSpdCL faceplate and you can connect all frequency drives. The APL_GS / G120 driver blocks, have more functionality then the FbDrive. You can connect these blocks with the statistic blocks (also in the DriveES library). And you can use all the features, which the Siemens drives have inside.

I'm using PCS7 v8.0 SP2 and the help window (F1 key over the block) does not work for the FbDrive block and I can't see the I/Os descriptions. Any suggestion? regards.
