FC80 TONR - Multiple Calls

hshen-sync Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	Dear Experts Can someone explain to me whether I can call FC 80 (TONR) timer multiple times inside the FB? One expert from Siemens told me I can only call FC80 once in my code. I tried calling this FC more than once in my FB with different In/out parameters mapping . Each timer is doing its own timing. It doesnt seem like there is any interference between all timers. Can someone please clarify this with me? Much appreciated!

If your timers inside the FC only respond to a single input, you can trick the plc into behaving like you want. However, you would be much better off to create FB(s) with independent static instance DB timers, resulting in a much easier to debug system.

I can see how this might get confusing because the timer can only accumulate based on the results of the TONR at the end of the scan. What happens in between is of no consequence other than it may affect the state of the end result.

So the reason they worked in the multiple calling condition is due to the fact all the timer Input/Output parameters are mapped to different registers and this timer FC80 is a retentive timer. I like FC80 timer, just because its timing value is in DINT fomat, which can be used directly on any types of HMI without further conversion. I will try to change all the timers in my FB to SFB4 (Static) type to avoid future trouble. Kind Regards
