Dear Sir or Madame, Referring your questions we have to admit that there is no simple answer because we do not know the other conditions that your communication requires. Let us explain it more common. If you require a quick communication with defined information content DP is the right choice. This requires also that one System works as a Master and the others work as Slaves. In this case also a wireless communication by using a ILM or a light barrier is possible. If you require defined but different information’s from one Station in the other Station either the FMS or the S7 Protocol is the right choice. These protocols are not as fast as DP but allow you to access different information’s. In this case it is not possible to use a wireless communication link. The possible Protocol is FDL. It is nearly as quick as DP but does not require a Master / Slave configuration. Here you can work with defined or programmed information sets that you transfer between stations. This Protocol does also not allow the use of wireless communication links. For further Information’s about the ILM please refer to the entry ID 1413638 in the Support Database. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1413638 About light barriers please contact the company’s Leuze or Sick, which offer certified Profibus components.
