iggarciaulma Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi! I have to comunicate a CP 343 Lean with a Omron (CJ1W-EIP21-NJ), and I need the file .EDS of my CP 343 Lean to put in the Omron. Where can I get the .EDS file of Siemens??? Thanks for the help!

Ethernet/IP or CanOpen, possibly? I believe both use .eds files to configure slaves on the network. But Siemens does not support Ethernet/IP or CanOpen natively. Siemens communication profiles do not use .eds files generally, and a CP 343-1 supports Industrial Ethernet (TCP/IP, UDP, ISO over TCP... without configuration files) and Profinet, which requires GSDML files for server configuration. Please provide more information on what you are planning to do so we may provide more complete answers. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

The Siemens PLCs (and their Ethernet CPs) do not support Ethernet/IP natively. They support Profinet and Industrial Ethernet. These protocols exist on TCP/IP infrastructure, but the protocols are not compatible. If you need an analogy, imagine you make a phone call and someone answers the call. This mens you both share the same infrastructure. But if the person answers in Russian and you speak English, you will not understand each other: your protocols are not compatible. It will be impossible to have a meaningful conversation. One solution is to place a translator on the line to make you understand what the other correspondant is saying: in technical terms, this is called a gateway.
