Find an Item Within an array

Omer Ron Posts: 64 Rating: (2)	Hello, I'm a newbie to the Simatic HW/SW. Is there a tool/command in STEP-7 to find anitem in an array, or is it something I need to build? For example, I have an array of string and I'm looking for "glass". I Want to know the first index of the array that matches. Thanks

I would suggest SCL as it is much easier to loop through an array with an index variable than doing it in ladder.

Once you have mastered the basics I'd advice you to create a function that loops true your array, comparing each individual component with the string you are looking for, let the function return an index number that refers to the component of the array that matches the string you are looking for. take a look at the program language SCL : https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?query=SCL&func=cslib.cssearch&content=adsearch%2Fadsearch.aspx&lang=en&siteid=cseus&objaction=cssearch&searchinprim=&nodeid99= Here's a sample code for once you've mastered the basics: FUNCTION "FC_FindString" : Void VAR_INPUT StringLookup : String; // 'String to look for END_VAR VAR_OUTPUT StringIndex : Int; // 'Returns the position of the string inside the array ReadyIndication : Bool; // 'Indicates if the function is done searching and the result is reliable END_VAR VAR_TEMP loop : Int; END_VAR BEGIN FOR #loop := 0 TO 10 DO // loop from 0 to 10 by +1 IF #StringLookup ="DB_FindString".StringContainer[#loop] THEN // compare string you are looking for with strings in array if they match then execute following #StringIndex := #loop; // return index value (location inside array of matching string) #ReadyIndication := 1; // set ready to one, indicate that match is found RETURN; // exit function ELSE // if nothing matches then #StringIndex := 9999; // set stringindex to 9999 #ReadyIndication := 0; // set ready to false, indicate that no match is found END_IF; END_FOR; END_FUNCTION I hope you choose to learn SCL and that my example helps.
