Working principle? How it is programmed? Is it possible to customize or modify? Regards, As you see, firmware is not an open source such as Linux or Android. It's proprietry an no one knows about it except the developers in SIEMENS.

In any case here is bellow a detailed FAQ that descripe how to update the firmware for a S7-300 CPU. Operating System Updates Firmware files can be downloaded from this website. I think he wants to customize the firmware for the CPU such as done in smartphones having Android OS with custom ROMs. This can be done for devices used by normal people and can have and withstand faults, but doing this in the CPU is not a good thing at all. Imagine playing in the ROM of a failsafe CPU !!!!!!!!! At least it needs certificates and tons of testing procedures.

Regards, Hello, Just to add some comments beside what has been mentioned yet.We have not the source project of the firmware with all details inside.But, We read manuals and material about behavior of S7300 /S7 400 CPUs.The instructions how to handle downloading, restart behavior, interrupt handling and program execution are instructions derived based on the firmware of CPU. All we need are available in "Manuals" and "Books" and that suffice us.Finally the whole instruction set that is also a characteristics of the main processor.I also suggest checking the following topic for a better understanding: [?] What is the architecture of S7 CPU's? I just had a tought "*If firnware is programmed to run anyone's plc programm, why not skip plc program and write my own firmware program*" Rgs, Firmware is downloaded to the CPU to make life easier for programmers. You don't have to talk to the microprocessor directly and you don't have to manage the write and read signals by yourself and you don't have to do memory management by yourself. I studied operating systems in college and it was not an easy thing to do This makes you focus on the PLC software itself and saves you a lot of time by giving you some access to lower level pre-programmed functions through high level and user friendly functions.

Hi, No it will be easy! I have tried onece to open FW update files with some HEX editor and have noticed that it is just like microconroller programmes but it is much much complicated to understand with out the help of the programmer. If only once understood how the firmware is programmed, it will be easy task for a PC programmer to develope a compiler (programming software) Just imagine if your program is compiled and downloaded as firmware? Surely you will get more CPU speed, more memory ... Conclusion: I couldn't and will not get any further details regarding FW Regards, Many thanks for all
