Firmware Update to use Example Image as of V1.2.1 and Industrial OS as of V3.2.2

bergmanu Platinum Expert Joined: 4/28/2015 Last visit: 9/21/2023 Posts: 3256 Rating: (367)	Hi folks, a new firmware for PG1 devices of IOT2050 Basic (FS:01) and IOT2050 Advanced (FS:01, FS:02, FS:03) has been released. To use Example Image from V1.2.1, it is required to update the firmware on the PG1 devices To use Industrial OS from V3.2.2, it is required to update the firmware on the PG1 devices After updating the firmware it is not possible to use Industrial OS V2.x. It is required to perform the firmware update with Example Image V1.1.1. Instructions and required files are attached to this post and can be found here as well. PG2 devices of IOT2050 Basic (from FS:02) and IOT2050 Advanced (from FS:04) are running on new firmware from factory. Overview about firmware and Example Image combinations: IOT2050 Basic FS:01: Example Image V1.1.1 (with old and new firmware) and from V1.2.1 (only with new firmware) FS:02: only Example Image from V1.2.1 FS:04: only Example Image from V1.2.1 IOT2050 Advanced FS:01: Example Image V1.1.1 (with old and new firmware) and from V1.2.1 (only with new firmware) Industrial OS V2.1/V2.2 (with old and new firmware) and V3.2.2 (only with new firmware) FS:02: Example Image V1.1.1 (with old and new firmware) and from V1.2.1 (only with new firmware) Industrial OS V2.1/V2.2 (with old and new firmware) and V3.2.2 (only with new firmware) FS:03: Example Image V1.1.1 (with old and new firmware) and from V1.2.1 (only with new firmware) Industrial OS V2.1/V2.2 (with old and new firmware) and V3.2.2 (only with new firmware) FS:04: Example Image from V1.2.1 Industrial OS V3.2.2 FS:05: Example Image from V1.2.1 Industrial OS V3.2.2 EDIT: How to document has been updated to V1.3 as well as the firmware version. Changelog: Added requirement to clear eMMc before updating the firmware, when Example Image V1.0.2 or Industrial OS V2.x is installed on the eMMc of IOT2050 Advanced Best regards! bergmanu Platinum Expert Joined: 4/28/2015 Last visit: 9/21/2023 Posts: 3256 Rating: (367)	Hi, I changed the version of the How To to V1.1, as it is required to clear the eMMc before the update when Example Image V1.0.2 or Industrial OS V2.x is installed on the eMMc. Otherwise it may happen that the IOT2050 remains unbootable after the update, which only can be solved with a UART cable and changing the boot order directly in u-boot. Best regards!

As reported in the guide attached in this topic, with the command fw_printenv fw_version They get the version: 2019.01-V01.00.00.1 But in the guide the reported version is 2019.01-V01.00.00.2 Will the update work also in this case? I recognized there is other version out there as well after creating the document and also missed to add this info. No matter which firmware version is pre-installed, the update works! FW V1.0.0.1 is the firmware of FS:01 of the IOT2050 Basic FW V1.0.0.2 is the firmware of FS:01 of the IOT2050 Advanced FW V1.0.2 is the firmware of FS:02 of the IOT2050 Advanced FW V1.0.3 is the firmware of FS:03 of the IOT2050 Advanced Best regards!

I need a clarification related to fw update: have I to install example image v1.1.1 before to be able to install the fw update 1.2.1? Becuase this post says "It is required to perform the firmware update with Example Image V1.1.1." My final goal is to have an IoT device updated with the last fw and example image version. This means, from what I can recognize in Siemens website, to be able to use fw version 1.2.1 and example image v1.2.2. Please let me know. Best regards

To update the firmware to V1.2.1, you need to use the Example Image V1.1.1, as it is the only version which can be booted with the old and new firmware. Boot Example Image V1.1.1 from SD card Update firmware to V1.2.1 Flash Example Image V1.2.2 to the SD card Boot the IOT2050 with the latest Example Image V1.2.2 After this procedure, you are up-to-date.
