With the release of V11 and Data Logging functionality on the S7-1200, I have created a function block to easily set up Data Logging. The user specifies whatdata should be recorded, header, file name, number of records, and time between records.

The Web server may be activated on the PLC to download the created DataLog.

Function Block:

Inputs:

Log_Name - String containing name of output file. DataLog file will be 'Log_Name'.csv

Log_Header - String containing column names for csv file separated by a comma. EX: 'Val1, Val2, Val3, Val4, Val5'. An array of Char variables may also be used to provide a longer Header.

Log_Data - Pointer to start of Data that will be recorded in data log.This can bean element in a DB, or a structure etc.Note: Number of variables in Data should match number of elements in Header.

Log_Records - Number of Data Log entries to be recorded before overwriting existing data

Log_Period - TIME input that indicates how often a new Data Log entry should be written


Outputs:

DataLog_Error - Boolean output set if acreate, open or write data log error occurs.


Operation of Function Block:

This FB should be called every cycle and sets up and maintains Data Logging functionality. If a Data Log of the specified 'Log_Name' is found, it is opened and the function begins writing specified data to it at the specified Log_Period. If the Data Log with 'Log_Name' is not found, it is created and then written to at the specified interval. Any unexpected error from DataLog- Open, Create, or Write causes operation to stop and returns a 1at DataLog_Error output.
