Function Ground For Profibus At CU320

simaticmanager Posts: 150 Rating: (5)	Hi all, There is a whole given on the cu320 near the profibus port , i could not find any info about that expect only that its a function ground for profibus. I want to know how should i connect the shield of profibus here. Can any giver me the detaills regarding this or any standard way to connect the proffibus shield at cu320. If there any image is availbale. pls help regards, vivek

Tambe Posts: 148 Rating: (11)	I think this must have provided for the Profibus connectors of other than siemens make.if you are using standard connector of siemens make there is no requirement to use this ground.

Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	I agree that the shield ground connection should be connected properlyvia the profibus plug. However i was under the impression that this seperate "hole" in the CU320 was for providing a seperate signal earth away from the noisier earth that other drive components were connected to. If you notice the symbol next to the hole it is a different earthing symbol used else where on the drive. Even in the example connection diagram in the control unit manual it shows the 2 different symbols as different connection points on the drive. But to be honest i have never used this connection and have used profitrace onall profibus networks i have commissioned and have not seen any grounding problem. Can anyone confirm the electrical connection behind this earthing point? How is it seperated from theprotective ground?

Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	it is like Tambe said. the sheild is grounded through the profibus plug. Specifically through the metal housing of the 9 pin Din plug.
