General Numeric 810T Problem

Detlef1 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	The machine in question is a old Cambell Automation CNC router. It has a general numeric 810T controler in it and it has a couple of issues. I can't verify this because there no name plate on the controler i'm just going off of the looks and the manual thats at the machine. (1) #3 PLC stop error (2) Vac and Coolant errors I have checked the inputs to the I/O card and they read correctly, I get a high signal as shown on the electrical. I can not get the PLC Stop error removed, I have also checked the battery with the power on and it reads 3.69 VDC. It is not of the 3 cell 1.5 V type but a single "C" cell type. Any Ideas? TSH Posts: 73 Rating: (2)	Hello, Do you have any other messages apart from the PLC? A list of alarms/messages can be found in the diagnosis area. Did you check the battery with power still applied to the controller? If not then you will have lost data! In this case you will need a copy of the data in order to restore it to the controller. This data is usually ona floppy disk and contains files such as TEA1, TEA2, MPF, SPF etc. Regards

Detlef1 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I figured as much. I only have two more questions if I may. One There's no floppy drive on this controler. So how do you load the files? Two, This is a very old machine and guess what, the customer has lost the disks or what ever the files were on. The manufacturer is long since gone so luck there. The only way I can see is to link up via a RS232 from a laptop. See attached image for controler Any Ideas? Attachment images.jpg (242 Downloads)

Detlef1 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	The only other messages as I listed before are 6000 series user defined . I did check the battery while the machine was on and it checked ok, as I stated before. What is stange is that if I disconnect the I/O adaptor card that is feeding the PLC by a ribbon cable to the I/O interface card. And boot the PLC it shows no addtional errors. And the adaptor card in question has all the safety inputs and over travel inputs going to the machine. According to the Electrical drawings all signals to the PLC for a normal statis are high by default and a error should occur when it goes low. Therfore, when I pull the ribbon cable I should get a ton of error messages, but I don't.

I would think the only reason you get any 6000/7000 area messages is that they are stuck on in a non volatile flag area. Removing the i/o proves nothing. Before you do anything else you need to take a copy of the data in the control. True it may be junk but it is all you have. Are the part programs still intact ?. Its a good sign if they are. The fault may be a genuine plc problem in which case your data is OK. You still have message text which would be deleted if the battery goes flat. The later 810 controls had the capability of storing the back up data on eprom. Unfortunately this required additional equipment so very few machine tool builders used the facility. You cannot find out if the data is there without clearing down the system and trying to load it. You need to hook up an S5 programming unit to see why the plc is in stop. If your data is truly lost then what are your plc programming skills like ?, not to mention CNC commissioning ?. Pee

It would appear thatthe NC data is intact, but you need to get this saved as soon as possibleto protect againstfurther problems in the future. Regards.
