My teacher gave an unclear explanation of this :s Also, is there any information available about the internal hardware/software architecture, some example questions I like to know; - does, for example, a S7-300 have an OS running inside? - is the hardware architecture like a von neumann machine(common data and program memory) or harvard machine(separate data and program memory)? - are the timers hardware controlled or software written? I would like to have a deeper knowledge of this 'computer' in general so maybe someone haves some recommended literature. With kind regards, Profimus

The CPU has a seperate work memory (data memory) and load memory (program memory). The timers for example are software calibrated, but it is cosidered as "system memory registers".
