Tjome Posts: 30 Rating: (1)	Hi. I made 2 very simmilar PLC stations with IO on profinet and ET200S IO on profibus. ( I sugges to take first a look att attached IMAGE on my project. You cee how I was thinking to connect PLC1 and 2 (red)) Toady I find out that we must connect those 2 PLC stations toghether,because we need to send data from station 2 , to station 1( only this/one direction). And I am NOT alowed to use profibusor ethernetport that I allreday have ( not mine decission ). So, I guess that solusion may be to buye and install either2 ethernet card or2 profibusmodules in to existing stations.( thats allowed ) What should I use? Profinet or Profibus? And why one and not the other of those two? Secont questions - let us say that I chose extra profibus module.... In both PLC I have same Flags, Input and Outputs, timers and so on... How to "separate" those Inputs/Outputs, so when PLC 1 (or2)do not affect on PLC 2 (or 1), and JUST my data I WANT to send is going throu from PLC 2 to PLC1? ( I see one solusion , but that time they usetd a DP/DP coulpler, that hase a different memory area- so just signals that was adressed high as that DP/DP coupler has, was "going throu".) I would install just on of the SCALANCE seriens industrial switch and make communication by means of AG_SEND/AG_RECEIVE. If we still can't use those ports I would go for additional Ethernet CPs and still use AG_SEND/AG_RECEIVE. You ask why Ethernet ? Simple cable, simple connectors, simple installation, high speed. If distance is more than 100 meters between PLCs I would go for Profibus because I don't like to install switches every 100 meters

KayBee Posts: 241 Rating: (7)	Dear Tjome, Your picture and solution is correct if existing Profinet or Profibus ports are not to be used as per your customer. Either you can use Profibus or Simple Ethernet CP module on both PLC racks. Now I see you can CP340 in one PLC1 rack, if you are not using or is available you can use this same module in PLC2 rack, program as multidrop Serial communication. Or if your data communication is not too many then you can still use new CP340/1 on both PLCs. This will save little money as compared to Profibus or Ethernet. But I don't know what is the logic or excuse behind not to use the simple available Profinet or Profibus port to connect each other this will simply possible and save more money, though solution may look like complex to your customer. But if they are money bank go for your solution. As for your 2nd question, you don't need to separate flag, DB, memory addresses in both PLC. There is no problem having same address , memory in bothe PLC. They will never colapsed. You will understand if you read litle about communication between PLCs. God luck.

So If I order 2 Ethernet CPs modules, and put thembeside respective CPUs, than I use something you called AG_SEND/AG_RECEIVE? Thats send/receive block in SiemensStep7 , I guess? How to avoid that timer 1 ( for example) in PLC 2 not affest timer 1 in PLC 1? Is it "inbuilt" somehow when I get those Ethernet CP modules, that I have to give them speciffic adress ?

Thats great, becouse it mean that I do not have to change my allready existing applications. I will read - the problem is that I yesterday realise that they are not allow me to use allrady existing ports/networks, either Profibus or Profinet. So today I must order 2 communications modules ( probably profinet). And time is running out. I gues that I have to use som kind of Send/Recieive blocks in bouth CPU and in HW config give some uniq adress for my new Etheren modules? And give data I want to send throu that modules, those uniqe adress?
