Help with working with ms sql server and WINCC

ishmail Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello everyone I jave recently started working with WINCC 6.2, problem is that i want to intergrate its ms sql server capabilities into my application, now i have a big project in which i have to store some data into the database that i would have created with ms sql server 2005, when a certain event takes place, or simply storing information on a database. the information could be coming from an RF reader through the PLC and i would then have to store that into the datebase. now the creating of the database is no real problem, and working with WINCC is also ok, i need to find out how i would connect the two. i read that WINCC uses ole,and sql and all that stuff, i just want to know HOW. if you could create a small data base even if it has one field in it, and show me how to insert,delete and update data in a database through WINNCC, i would be very greatful,the events can be driven by a button, say a delete, insert (of which ypu would have to insert data into the database) and update. i hope someone will be able to help me with this, i searched everywhere all i can find is " YES WINCC CAN DO THAT" but no explanation as to how i should go about doing it. thank.

Public gocn, gorsAuthors, gorsAuthorsChange, gorsTitles, gorsTitlesAuthors Sub ActivateDBHandling 'used to activate global variables End Sub Sub ConnectDB Set gocn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set gorsAuthors = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") 'CONNECT TO MSACCESS DB 'cn.open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:\WinCC V6 Workshop 0203\V6_demo3\Media\WinCCFac.mdb;Persist Security Info=False" 'CONNECT TO SQLSERVER, PUBS DB gocn.open "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=pubs;Data Source=.\WinCC" End Sub have a look the second last statement 'CONNECT TO SQLSERVER, PUBS DB gocn.open "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=pubs;Data Source=.\WinCC" i cant seem to understand this, is you look at the statements used to connect to the MSACCESS table, it is clearlry stated where the data source is. cn.open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:\WinCC V6 Workshop 0203\V6_demo3\Media\WinCCFac.mdb;Persist Security Info=False" now i dont know why this is not the case for the SQLSERVER, and further more, i heard a lot about connectivity packs and the others, and i was wondering, when do i need to installed them,and do i need to. i have WINCC 6.2.0.1 running on my machine, and it came standard with MS SQL SERVER 2005, and i am planning on using the VB Scrip to query the database, do i have to have the connectivity pack. however, the link was very useful and i appreciate it.

First of all, pubs and nortwind samples databases are not part of mssql 2005 distribution. You can download from msft here Runmsi file, copy db files into \MSSQL\Data folder and attach to your WINCC instance in SQL Server Management Studio From here Salma's code should run fine, see attached. ishmail Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Thank you Well i did as you suggested and its working, all i wanted was a way to connect to the sql server and query the database, and i will be able to handle the design and scripting of the everything else, my project is due end of september, so i have ample time to complete. thank you once again to all who really came through for me. the hand that gives is blessed more than that receives, please continue helping.

I'm posting the DB query - DB_Manipulation_V6 project, which may be the one you need. Note that it's in v6, so you'll need to migrate it to your version before using.
