High Precision time stamping

Amit_86 Platinum Member Joined: 3/18/2008 Last visit: 12/8/2023 Posts: 1750 Rating: (272)	Problem Definition: Whenever DI changes from 0 to 1 , the accurate time stamps needs to be recorded and forwarded in a message to OS. Procedure: 1. Activate Time Synchonzation between the OS and the AS via System Bus. 2. Activate Time Synchonzation in your Profibus DP master interface. 3. Activate Time of Day stamp for the correct channel of the digital input module SM321. 4. Create a new CFC chart “Time_Stamping” in hierachy folder and create the program for sending the time stamp to the OS.With PCS7 Library using blocks CH_DI and MSG_TS . 5. Edit the message text for the time stamped signal. 6. Compile your charts and download your changes to AS 7. Compile your OS and test your work.

Dear all, There is one important aspect which has to be borne in mind that Siemens does not offer the high precision time stamping for all IO modules. This feature is available only on a few select Failsafe IO Modules only and they cost more than triple compared to normal IO modules. Normally, the Alarm information is timestamped at intervals of 1s in the AS and sent to the OS which is more than sufficient even in pharma applications. the high precision timestamping modules are used (very sparingly) in F&G or other such systems which haver an inherent risk to the lives of people working on the systems, to monitor crtical saftey moniotring IO's only, to enable tracing of the point of origin of fault.

Time stamping is only valid without RS485 repeaters on Profibus line between the ET200M and the CPU/CP. A small thing to clarify, It's not limited only to fail safe (expensive) modules but the following standard modules could alsobe used for 1ms time stamping. 6ES7321-7BH01-0AB0. 6ES7321-7RD00-0AB0. 6ES7321-7TH00-0AB0. 6ES7326-1BK01-0AB0. It could also be configured with ET200iSP (6ES7131-7RF00-0AB0) More information can be read under System and componentsin High-Precision Time Stamping (V7.1). Please note you can not check Alamsgenerated via MSG_TS Blockwithout Actual Hardware.i mean Checking of this High Precesiion TimeStamping Alarms are not possibleon PLC Simulator because Alarms are processed via ET200M Directlyto OS.
