KGP Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Hi All! I tried to make a block that counts hours and minutes of a system running. I just have no idea to start.... Somebody has some tips or examples to set me in a good direction?? Greetings!

bakerjw Posts: 126 Rating: (18)	There are 2 different ways that I can think of. In the device configuration of the PLC you can set the system and clock bytes under the system and clock memory section of the properties. The system byte is MB1 and the clock byte is MB0. One of the bits of the clock byte is a 1 hertz signal (M0.5). You can use a pulse detection -[P]- with it to increment a counter or memory location. 3600 counts can then increment an hour counter or memory location. In TIA Portal 10.5 you will have to create your own tags however in TIA Portal 11.0 the tags are autmatically created when the bytes are enabled. You can also use RD_SYS_T to get the system time into a start time location in a DB and then use a T_SUB with the saved time and current time to get a time difference. It might take some maniuplation to get it into a format that you can use. Hope that helps. John

If you integrate the constant 1.0 as IN,you will have the OUT as seconds. In the same way integration of 1/60 =0,01666667 corresponds to OUT in minutes and IN = 1/3600 = 2,77778e-4 correspont to OUTPUT in hours.

KGP Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Hi All, Thanx for the replies... i tried the counter witha 1hz clock bit and that seems to work alltough i doubt the precision on a long term, but as this is not so important for my application, it works. @Pegaia: i will still try your hint... Only one problem i encounter, every time i upload a program change into the plc (transfer to device; transfer aal blocks) all the data seems lost, even the ones i made retentive, with the result my hour counter went back to zero...... Is there any way to store the sec, min and hour data in a DB??

koenb Silver Member Joined: 6/26/2009 Last visit: 11/27/2024 Posts: 122 Rating: (23)	if you want both hour and minutes , this is how I do it. - generate a 1 min puls from the 1Hz bit. - count the pulses into a minute counter 0.00 to 0.59 - if counter reaches 0.60 reset the counter and increment the hour counter with 1.0 - add the value of both counters and store the result into to the total counter. If you have the minute and hourcounters on a HMI screen they can easily be rewritten when they have been reinitialised after PLC download. You can find several threats regarding this loss of data. V11 should be solved this , but we are still waiting .... Attachment hourcount.JPG (3220 Downloads)

But in my own case in make use of FC 80 Timer-on Retentive Delay. It worked perfectly. Whenever there is power failure on the PLC the time value will be saved automatically in the PLC retentive memory. By so doing i didn't lose any data. Kindly, try the same thing with your project. I believe it will work for you too. Alternatively, you should make use of a clock bit as earlier said to achieve your aim. Regards, Success.
