I absolutely don't see any good future with Unified where everywhere Siemens is writing how the UDT approach just super great and how it makes less work in relation to Faceplates. 

Can you explain how I can connect my DB's for each valve, motor,... with a faceplate without useless workarounds and using UDT's...

And now even the "change object references" is gone - this is back to 1998 ...

 This multiplexing only works if data is in an array which it is not since he wants connect an IDB to a faceplate.

I don't see any good way to link it without fundemental change in how the program is set up in the PLC, either by using UDTs or by having one FB with the instances of each arrayed.

well, the typical siemens answer would be: Your FB should contain an udt that contains all the information the HMI needs. That's from the standardized perspective. But if that is not possible i will give you a hint to wait for Update 1 of V17 (got told it will be coming soon) Maybe we'll reach the 2000s again (rewiring)
