I need to create a few very simple alarms to display on a HMI in my project. (TIA Portal V13)

I'm a new user to S7 so I'd be grateful if any responses can be as simple as possible.

Most of the alarms I want to create will be triggered by a digital input being high/low. I understand the trigger tags for alarms cannot be of bool type so I can't just point the trigger at the address for the input.

Very simply, If I wanted to display an alarm "Motor failed to start" and this was monitored from %i0.1for example how would I do this.

I've followed help files regarding setting up the alarm screens etc I just need to get it triggered.

I use this block, helpfully provided by William_B.

I have used this to trigger alarms as you describe and it works great!

Thank you both for your help. 

I've opted for the AT command to overlay the word with a bool array. Not sure if it's the best route but it works. 

I'm struggling with many aspects of S7 but that's just down to it being new to me so apologies for the post that's no doubt been covered before.
