Hello everyone I'm looking to get trained up on S7 PLC's, I have very limited knowledge so i'm looking for some advice on how I can set up a training rig in my work. What hardware and connection cables would I need etc? Also what software package would be the best to get for a beginner? Step7 or Tia Portal? Can you buy all of this as a complete starter pack? Any advice and support on this would be most appreciated. Thanks again Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Hello Chris; S7-1200 and S7-1500 PLCs are the more modern of the S7 family. Between the two, the S7-1200 is the low-level CPU, and requires Step 7 v1x Basic to program it: a S7-1500 is a more powerful CPU, and requires Step 7 v1x Professional. The latest version of TIA Portal (Step 7 and WinCC ) is v16. https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/automation/systems/industrial/plc/s7-1200.html https://new.siemens.com/global/en/products/automation/systems/industrial/plc/simatic-s7-1500.html The Siemens starter kits includes a PLC, the software to program it and the connecting cable in a single package, at a lower price than individual purchases. Optionally you can add a Siemens operator panel with the required version of WinCC v1x, and change the standard CPU to a FailSafe unit if you want to try your hand at Safety programming. For example, here are the starter kits for the S7-1200 CPUs. The part number of the starter kit is seen under each offer in the document above, contact your nearest Siemens rep to inquire for pricing and delivery. Hope this helps, |
