How can use the differential inputs and outputs?

I have s7 1200 cpu 1217c

I want to know how can i use the differential inputs and outputs .

Can i use it as mod bus communication.

What is the function of these inputs and outputs.

It is not possible to use the differential IO for communication.

The differential inputs can be used to connect a differential signal from an external device like an encoder.

The differential outputs can be used to connect to external device to send a differential signal. For example a frequency drive with a differential input.

The designation differential is because the voltage level between the 2 wires is measured. This results in cancelling all noise on the signal. This makes these signals almost immune for noise ( if all connections are properly made)
