how do I direct the log to the CPU

Hello Martins_Eng, You don't need to do anything specifically for this. By default in your S7-1200 Controller, if you make use of the internal load memory then your data logs are also created / stored in the internal load memory (where no SIMATIC MemoryCard is involved).
