How do you configure alarms in s7-1200 and ktp400?

I got used to s7-300 way: In step7 basic i have bool tags in DB alarm ex. db1.dbx0.0 alarm 1 ..... In ktp400 i cant declare db1.dbw0 as alarm word. in step 7 basic also a i can't move db1.dbw0 to db1.dbw2 AlarmWord Why step7 basic doesn't allow me to access to non symbolic tags? (access symbolic access is off for DB1) For now i maybe use the ex. program to move bools to tags. But its strange way a think best regards Splitted from Is it possible to change DB's 'symbolic access only' to tags after it was created?.

fbelic Posts: 327 Rating: (28)	Greetings Yes. And when you want to trigger "Alarm one", you have to set "Data_block_1".DBX0.1... But in network you don't know what is behind "Data_block_1".DBX0.1. This is not problem when you have few alarms, but what when you have >50 alarms? You have to either know all alarms (which isimpossible)and their addresses or switch all the timeto alarm editor (which is slow). Best regards

I could not live with such asolution (it looks horrible and I was struggling to get my head around the loss of one of the most valuable aspects of S7). Anyway, my solution is to have two DBs (or one split - depends on your preferences). Set them both up as Not "Optimised Block Use". Use the first one as a place to generate and marshall the alarms, and the second to send them to the screen - messy in it's own way but at leastlegible on a normal PC screen, unlike the "official" solution. Thus the ladder would operate on say (e.g. DB100.DBx4.5 - Alarm 85, Dummy Alarm for Example). This gives the ability to name, and comment alarms as normal.At the end of the alarm Ladder Logic,move the Bits across into Word Formatusing MOVE instructions (you only need a few for an S1200) from the Bit addresses to the coresponding word addresses (e.g. MOVE DB100,DBW0 DB101.DBW0 etc..). The Screen can then access the Bitsfrom within the word versions of thealarm coils. Note the "extra" MOVEs can be made into a useful place to monitor the whole alarm structure bya bit of planning on the layout of the rung. But, why the hell does the new software not come with an Alarm Handler as standard? Especially when it has destroyed the accepted alarms method used for years? Hope they don't knacker up 300 and 400 software as badly when we have to useV11 for them as well......
