How handle Alarms when using OPC and PROFIBUS-DP?

Anders Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	Hello, I'm a PC programmer and I have no knowledge of programming PLC's. I'm using SIMATIC NET to communicate over PROFIBUS-DP via an OPC server. I'm using a CP5611 as a master and the PLC is a S7-200 as a slave. I use VC++ 2005 as my programming language. I can read and write data. I don't get how to handle alarms!? We created an bit-array with all the alarms and I used a timer to read the data on specific intervalls. We realize that it was not a good idea :-( We lose alarms... Would someone please explain, like for a 4 year old, how alarms is supposed to be handled? TIA Anders A very confused C++ programmer

There you could read about OPC A&E server in chapter 6.3 and you'll find a sample in chapter 7.8. Please note that VS 2005 is just released with SIMATIC NET edition 2006.
