sry, very general question show me that probably you're start work with Modbus. Simply I recommend to you start with some helps, documentation. Modbus simply differ also with transfer media/protocol. Also important info is what PLC HW you want use. This info I missing from your post. Start on Modbus.org or www.simplymodbus.ca Then you can look to TIA portal and select due your HW needed instructions. Good luck.
