HOW TO ADD AN OS TO EXISTING ES

quadri Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	DEAR MEMBERS, One of our client is having a PCS 7 system in their Nitrogen generation plant .It consists of :-One no. of ( non redundant)AS with CPU 416-One no. ofES/OS station.Client wants to enhance the system by addingone OS station. Required task: We have to install the newOS station. However, the clientcan not allow shutdown of AS systemof PCS7 .Werequest yourguidance on the procedure to be followed for installing /configuring/ downloading to new OS system..I look forward to your reply as soon as possible. quadri Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	to increase the safety of the plant the client wants to aDd an additional OS to the existing ES/OS, ie if the runningES fails still there should be the availabilty of HMI(HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO OPERATE FROM THE NEWLY INSTALLED OS). these both need not be redundant.

So what you want to end up with is 3 new Simatic PC stations: 1 ES/OS client (new, WinCC application client) 1 OS server (new, WinCC application) 1 OS client (new, WinCC application client) Now you have two working clients and a server, and an ES. The ES is used as ES and as one of the two Clients. You have to split your OS project into multiuser (in wincc). You have to add an OS Server Simatic PC station (wincc application) and cutnpaste the original "OS project object" from the ES/OS into the newly created OS Server wincc application. You have to insert two Simatic PC stations (WinCC application clients) Search for and read the "Compendium A" for further info on setting up Simatic PC stations. Prats Posts: 272 Rating: (4)	Hi Quadri, You can do that by adding a project in PCS 7 ES, then transferring it to the new OS. The details are given in PCS 7 manual OS configuration and ES configuration.

Yoga Shankar Posts: 288 Rating: (22)	Hello all, redundancy between single stations is not yet available in PCS7 OS. Likewise, assigning one PH are to more than one OS is also not possible. One cost effective solution is that transfer the OS project to a Dedicated OS station and make the OS on the ES a reference OS. This means that the ES will show the same OS Runtime, but will actually be taking all the data from the OS. in case the ES fails, the OS will still be available. On the other hand, if the OS fails, ES will not be able function as OS.

PPND Posts: 103 Rating: (6)	Dear Quadri, what is the protocol on which your tags are being read in the current ES/OS. Based on that i can suggest you asolution. Please give the details of the communication channel over which the tags ae read(e.g. named connection, IE general.. etc.)

THANKS AND REGARDS IRFAN. Hey Irfan Quadri Since your client won't allow you to shutdown/De-activate the ES/OS; you can manually configure the new OS as OS Client of ES/OS. Create a client project in the New PC as a OS Client , and assign the Server path(\\ ES\............) for the new Client. Keep in mind. This will stop functioning when the ES/OS is deactivated

minhajie Posts: 96 Rating: (10)	Hi Qadri, My reply is late but just incase if you have not come up with any conclusion I would like to say something. As far as I understood you want a new OS which will work together with the exsisting ES/OS system to give a backup in case if the ES/OS fails. It is not possible to do so as you have to define the new connection in your AS416 CPU which will require a shutdown. After the download you can shutdwon the ES/OS and the system will still work fine with the new OS. In future what you can do is to avoid such shutdown you can use CIR software. Krrish !! Posts: 73 Rating: (6)	Dear Quadri, Which version of PCS7 are you using ? If the PCS7 version is v7.x, then you can configure the new OS as a WinCC Reference Station and then reference the WinCC project of your existingES/OS on the new OS. If the PCS7 version is lower than v7.x, the option of WinCC reference station is not available. Under such circumstances, you can add the new OS to your project in Simatic Manager and generate the XDB files. Then you can manually transfer the XDB file and OS project to your new PC station.
