How to blow up an infeed/regen unit

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (56)	Hi, Connected up an infeed/regen unit and powered up ok. Checked axis enables and realised that terminal 112 (setup mode) was not linked out. Removed the pulse enable, removed the bottom connector and linked 9 to 112 and put the plug back in leaving 3 phase on the drive. Switched on the pulse enable and bang. One dead infeed/regen module. I've has this happen before in similar but not identical circustances. p.s. I don't remove/connect power to the module without pin 48 and pin 63 being disabled. My Fanuc friends laugh at being able to blow up a module by changing links. Am I doing anything wrong or is there a detailed technical overview of how the infeed regen powers up/down instead of a Siemens do this but don't do that instruction book. Thanks

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (56)	HI, Thanks but it doesn't explain why the drive would blow. Also the drive blew when I put the link in as it should be according to drawing. In any case the infeed/regen unit doesn't know whether a digital or analog drive is connected to it. Is there a Siemens Technical Expert who can tell me how many infeed units are returned that have failed. Most of my contacts have had numerous failures and returned them and there is never a query on a warranty return so I guess it must be a problem. More information please.

When changing–over from normal operation, terminal 112 energized, into setting–up operation, terminal 112 de–energized, terminal 48 must also be de–energized, either earlier or at the same time. After the internal line contactor has dropped–out, the setting–up voltage can be connected to the power circuit terminals. Setting–up voltage 34 V...600 V DC or 3–ph. 24 V...3–ph. 420 V AC (refer to Section 9.5). For setting–up operation, the DC link control in the I/R module is inhibited. The DC link voltage obtained, is the rectified line input voltage; regenerative feedback is not possible (VDC link can exceed to over 600 V when braking!). It can to you will help. Successes.
