How to Clean up Database Files

Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi, I have several Server projects that contain almost the equal amount of information (alarms/tags/connection). Strange thing is that the <projectname>.ldf and <projectname>.mdf files of one project are much larger then the same files of the other project. As we were doing a lot of importing/exporting (tags and alarms) in the pastI can imaging that the DB's are flooted with information that is "not needed anymore". Is there a way to "clean" these database files up (and thereby reduce their size)? Thanks in advance for any help. with regards.

The FAQ describes how to delete the Runtime data of a project. i'm talking about the <projectname>.lfd and mdf files that are within the root of the projectfolder. I will give that help phrase you suggested a try, but any other ideas regarding my explanation above? Regards, Joost

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi Ikkezelf, well, unfortunately there´s no known way for compressing/cleaning the CS-database in a safe way. The SQL-Server enterprise manager is offering a shrinking-feature, but certainly no one has ever tested this feature for WinCC-applications.... Good luck, nemo

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	I would typically use the Mass Configuration tool to export the database to Excel, create a new project and import the settings into the new project. I then manually copy all the files and scripts from the old to the new project. Works well if the project has any possible corruption as well.

Reuben Posts: 70 Rating: (13)	Hi I have not ever checked the size of the CS database, but what I find sometimes fixes project bugs is to use the "WinCC Project Duplicator" (open project and use "Save As" to create a new project) or the "WinCC Project Migrator". I think these create a new optimal project database. Reuben
