How to connect Op 277 to s5 135 PLC?

I have to upgrade the OP270 connected to a 135U PLC. Since the panel has been obsolete, i choose the op 277 6" key as the replacement. i have read the "Simatic HMI communication manual" , there mentioned that it is posssible to connect the HMI panel with s5 135 U via Profibus and AS 511 groupe 2. But Profibus need another S5 module (IM 308) and some program modification on PLC, it seems a complicated and expensive solution. I also read the op277 manual, there i found a picture that s5 can be connected to the panel via RS 485. so i buy an "RS 232 to RS 485 converter (supply from Rs232 port)" and try test the panel by connecting it to the COM1 port on my PC. by using pro save ver.7.4.1, i try to check the device status but it doesnt work. the communication PC and Op277 cannot be established, its always aborted with a message " communication cannot be established, check comm. Cable, interface etc". i also measure the IF1B port (rs 485/422 port) on the OP 277. there i found that pin 7 and 6 each output 24 and 5 V DC. My rs 485 converter is a pasive converter, so it doesnt need external supply and powered from the data Control signal. my question are: can i connected OP 277 + Rs485 to Rs232 converter + TTY to rs 232 converter + S5 135U directly? is the above OP277 communication testing procedure right? if it was wrong, please inform me if there is any right procedure. about The 24 V and 5 VDC on pin 7 and 6 of IF 1B port. what does it for? is the siemens Rs485 port are different from the original standard? I look forward and really appreciate for all the solutions, suggestions, comments or informations given. My best regards, simatix

simatix Experienced Member Joined: 7/8/2008 Last visit: 3/26/2025 Posts: 51 Rating: (0)	Hi wizard, yes i have already read it twice. but i still confusing that on the OP277 manual, there is a picture about OP's IF 1B port is able to connect with S5 via RS 485 (though there dont draw / mentioned that i need to use a converter). it is true that our client has a TTY to rs 232 cable, but the problem is they dont want to purchase the im 308 module and i am still curious to connect the OP277 using rs485 standard. thank you for replying anyway.If you have another suggestion, please feel free to reply me again.

Search for AS511 and select 'Device-dependency of the protocols' Then look at TP277/OP277, you will see that there is no possibility to use AS511 protocol The only way is to use Profibus DP, (RS485).
