How to group bits in byte

aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Hi I have various elements from the symbol library on a picture . To operate various attributes like blinking or appearance you need a byte BUT in the PLC the various conditions are non grouped outputs or flags or inputs ( ie fault = M 20.2 , Auto = I 12.1 run = Q 24.0 ) Is there an elegant way to group these bittags as a byte ( if possible without to much scripting)Maybe using Dynamic dialog. The whole idea is to try and not change the PLC software. Greetings Eric

Hi, Eric, Is it possible for you to have an separate byte tag in the PLC, for example MB10 and then write one FC for the conversions, for example: A M20.2 // fault =M10.0 A I12.1 // auto =M10.1 A Q24.0 // run =M10.2 So you get MB10 = 1 if fault, M10 = 2 if auto, M10 = 4 if run or any other combination of 3,5 and 7 also. Is it ok or I don't understand your question ? If its ok, you have no additional scritps. You can use for these Bytes DB memory and not flag memory.

Yes I did that but I cannot do this in all the PLC's ( some are very critical , some have block protections,some supplier will not help us if they find different software in the PLC)Thats why I am triyng to do it on the wincc side. The problem is that I will have to write about a 1000 scripts ( all look alike but still) rather than be able to say select tags1 + tag2 in a dynamic call. thanks for the help so far Eric

Hi aikona, I do not see the need for combining your bits to a byte for your problem. I would rather build a customized object with a script and tag names embeded in the script (between WINCC_TAGNAME_START and WINCC_TAGNAME_END) so that a simple search and replace will fill in the tags for the new object. Regards

Anchobi Posts: 139 Rating: (25)	Hi Aikona Im not an expert of winCC either, yet, but i do believe you can do something you might find more elegant in a Dynamic Dialog as you initally suggested. in the attached image you will see a dynamic dialog with a petite script which turns three binary tags into an analog value from which you can set the colour of an object, so you could config colours for run, stop fault etc. of course you would have to think of what colour to display in all possible combinations (i.e. inbetween states where more than one bit is set) As you can see in my example there are 8 possibilities (ive accidently left out the 0 value) anyway have a play with this yourself and see if you like it Attachment dynamicdialog.jpg (152 Downloads)

I don't use 0 . I am using the combination to show an arrow going up or down( green or red) or flashing cross ( for error) if the bit combination is 0 then all the symbols are hidden. Eric
