How to identify in wich DP/PA Coupler an instrument is connected

Darlam Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have a redundant system S7-400-H. I am using Step7 V5.3 SP2. One of my remote racks is composed of 2 IM153-2 and 5 DP/PA couplers. In my HW configuration this rack appears as an IM157 PA master, with one profibus link where all the instruments are connected. The problem is that I cannot find to which of the 5 DP/PA couplers a PA instrument is connected by looking at the HW configuration. How can I verify that. I need to find an instrument at the field that we have no idea where it is located. Following the cables is a bit complicated, so it will be good if I knew at least wich cable I have to follow. fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 12/10/2024 Posts: 3028 Rating: (1057)	Hello Darlam I'm afraid the HWconfig won't be able to tell you which PA device is connected to each of the 5 PA couplers. Reason being is that all of your5 PA couplers arebehinda singleDP/PA link and as such (and also as far as the PLC is concerned) there is only one PA Master system behind theDP/PA link. The advantage of being able to have up to 5 PA couplers behind a DP/PA link is simply to be able to have more than one physical PA segmentbehind the DP/PA link (which can be benificalfor reasons such ascurrent consumption segregation, spurline lenghts, number of PA devices per Segment etc.). I trust this helps in sheding some light on it,more useful info is contained in the DP/PA coupler/link operating instructions(I would haveattched the download link here but there is something wrong with the Siemens service & support web at the moment). For Profibus-PA, we design the screen as a diagram reproducing each PA coupler and its attached slaves.That way, it is easy for the operator to locate on which coupler the defective PA sl;ave is located. A little bit of work, maybem, but much appreciated by the operators and the maintenance crew. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
