How to make two s7-1200PLC communicate over Serial cable?

Haroulle Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, The goal is to be able to manipulate one PLC's outputs through the other PLC via serial cable using the CM1241 modules, if it is at all possible. I've done it with the MODBUS_server and MODBUS_client, wondering if it can be done throuh PtP. Thanks in advance!

Estring Posts: 86 Rating: (3)	Hi Haroulle, actually in the same way as you did with MODBUS TCP/IP you can do it with MODBUS RTU using CM module at both sides. BUT: there can be 1 master(e.g PLC1) and multiple slave(e.g PLC2,PLC3...PLC n).

Since the s7-1200 has built in profinet, you can simply connect up an Ethernet cable between the two s7-1200's and use GET/PUT. Another option with Portal V13 and Firmware 4.0 S7-1200's is to have one of the 1200's be an I-Device and essentially be remote I/O for the other PLC. Yes, you can force your plc to run over serial cable, but for the price of two rs232 modules and all the time it takes to get great logic to create your own protocol over rs232, you could connect up an Ethernet switch, run your network cables, and be running with time and money to spare.
