How to read data in a DB with internet

MustOne Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I think my title is not clear but I did not find a good one. So let me explain you my request. When you work in local, you can read daat in a DB or with a VAT according to your current network configuration. Now, my PLC (315 2 DP) and my CP (343-1 avanced IT) are on site. I would like to have an access like an local access. I read in a doc that I have to set the private IP address with the public IP address gives by the dynDNS server. Imagine this situation: in local, I set 192.168.100.1 and the submask network is 255.255.255.0. now, the public address is 90.45.5.34 (an example) and 255.0.0.0 for the submask. What I have to do is replace the192.168.100.1 with90.45.5.34, isn't? But when I try to read the DB, the STEP7 does not arrive to reach my DB. How can I fix this problem?

jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, Look at this entry: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/26662448 And more specific the item: Connection via a standard DSL Router with Port Forwarding (English) I guess that your problem resides in the fact that in many cases a router conntected to Intrenet is usin NAT (network address translation). And incoming traffic on a NAT routre is an issue that can be solved via port forwarding. And because the public address of common Internet access may cahnge over time (if you do not rent a fixed IP address), you can help to fiind out the current IP via DynDNS. And as you told, you have to put the public address in your Step7 project when you access from remote. Pay aatention that you can only reach one PLC behind the router by that way. Else you will have to use VPN, which is also described in the entry above.

MustOne Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	Hi EDR, Thank you for your reply but this entry is the one I have already read. Unfortunately, I cannot access my PLC yet. I have just one question. When I replace my CP IP adress in the HW Config with the IP adress of my router what I have to do next is saving the project and uploading it to the CP? or just try to open an onlined DB?

Because the CP is connected to the private network, and must usean IP address in the private network range. Important for the CP however is that you have configured the setting "userouter", with the private address of the router.The CP must answer to unknown addresses (your remoteprogramming)by using the router.

MustOne Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	Hi, Ok so I do not have to use the "use router" setting. Well, it does not matter at this time. The person in charge of the project wants to be able to load a project from the office to the site. Thus I put aside this first stage. According to the same doc, we are able to do that bysetting the download interface in STEP 7 with the destination public IP address. Which driver we need? does the TCP/IP communication is sufficient?

Its allowed only if you install hardware firewall (separate) as well. I would recoment to use VPN capable routers on both ends and create VPN tunnel for safer download of CPU.
