how to reduce the size of the transaction file (*.ldf) of the database of a WinCC project

Ashish Patil Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hi I am using PCS-7 V7.1 in one of my project with 416 plc and i have observed that my size of my transaction file (.ldf) is getting increased. Can anybody tell me how to reduce the size of the transaction file (.ldf) of the database of the WinCC project? As of now the size has increased upto 6GB and this is taking time to open my WinCC project and also while taking backup of my project. Regards Ashish P.

Yoga Shankar Posts: 288 Rating: (22)	Dear Ashish, Please check the trigger interval for the tags that are getting archived. If you are archiving a lot of tags then i suggest that you increase the archive cycle time i.e. the time interval after which the tag value is stored in the archive. The tags that get archived are first stored in the *.ldf format and then read into the CCTLG database. Also i suggest that you reduce the refresh frequency of the online tags. This should reduce the amount of data that your PCS7 OS is reading/writing per cycle. Hope this helps

Ashish Patil Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Dear yoga Thanks for the replay surely i will change the setting, but this will not solve my problem permentely as that file is going to increase and this will increase the size of my hard disk. somebody had told me that there is a exe file name as 'Shrink' which when run on the ES station reduces the size of the *.ldf. so can some body send me that file or can somebody send me the link from where i could get it. I am using PCS7 V7.1 and I have the same problem like Ashish.....my *.ldf file is now 150GB and my HDD is nearly full. Thanks!

Project backup size is increasing a lot day by day. Previously archive project backup size was around 500 MB and at present it is around 2.2GB !!! I am doing some logic modifications in the charts using standard blocks such as timers, logical operations such as AND/OR/XOR etc. And modifications/changes in WinCC screens. After doing this when i am archiving the project backup it is increasing day by day. Can any one help/guide me how to reduce archive project backup size. Await your response. Thanks and Regards, M. Ralfinio Posts: 567 Rating: (104)	Hi, did start the WinCC runtime on the ES? If yes you also backup the tag and alarm logging data. If you don't need the runtime data you can reset the tag and alarm logging archives.
