How to reset or restore the original formatting on the SIMATIC Memory Card?

In case of the SIMATIC Memory Card becoming unusable due to any reason, now it can berestored by ourselves. Have a look at How do you detect an inconsistently or incorrectly formatted SIMATIC Memory Card (SMC) and how do you repair it?

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Expert Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 9/26/2023 Posts: 4237 Rating: (1366)	Hi, reading the S7-1500 Manuals and this FAQ, I suspect that these instructions refer JUSTto data corruption problems (e.g. ejecting the SD card with CPU in RUN mode) but it doesn't help to the most frequent two cases: 1 - To use a standard SD card (not Siemens) im S7-1500 2 - Unintentional formating of SIMATIC cards by Windows. In special the notes of the FAQ says: " Note Do not use Windows Explorer nor any other Windows tools for formatting. Such formatting would render the SIMATIC Memory Card unusable for the S7-CPU. In this case you must first reset the original formatting. " but it doesn't tell us how to reset the original formatting. Is my suspect corret? Have alread a confirmation (also in praxis)?

The procedure described inTable 2 of "How do you detect an inconsistently or incorrectly formatted SIMATIC Memory Card (SMC) and how do you repair it?"(see copybelow) does help in case "2 - Unintentional formating of SIMATIC cards by Windows.".

If the file system (hidden files) of the SIMATIC Memory Card has been deleted, the memory card can be repaired and formatted only with a S7-1500 CPU and TIA Portal.

No.	Procedure
1	Slot the SIMATIC memory card into an S7-1500 CPU.
2	Establish an online connection with a PG/PC (STEP 7 V12) and S7-1500 CPU.
3	Open the "Online & Diagnostics" view of the CPU.
4	In the "Functions" folder you select the "Format Memory Card" group.
5	Click the "Format" button.

DonSebas Regular Member Joined: 3/19/2012 Last visit: 9/11/2023 Posts: 4 Rating: (2)	There is another option if you like to delete the data on the sd-card. i.e. for security reasons -put sd-card in cardreader of your laptop or Field-PG -Create a new minimalistic project in TIA (only need a CPU) -Copy (drag & drop) this project onto the sd-card with TIA-portal ofcourse. putiss Posts: 1 Rating: (1)	Hi, if you want just reset SMC put the card to your laptop reader, and delele SIMATIC.S7S a S7_JOB.S7S. After insert card to PLC, it creates new these files. Do NOT use format card at your windows explorer.
